Underground Lineman

This position is responsible for performing diversified work related to construction and maintenance of underground power lines, form plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. This position supports the line team and works with other personnel from various departments.

  • Understand and be able to perform switching procedures to isolate and insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following safety procedures.
  • Set and work on underground transformers and other devices
  • Provide connecting and disconnecting, installing and removal, and moving and transferring of various electrical devices on customer facilities, i.e. transformers, transformer banks, regulators, switches, switching devices, capacitor banks, etc.
  • Able to perform rigorous physic labor
  • Possess a basic knowledge of materials used in line work
  • Set and work on underground transformers and other devices
  • Understand basic rigging, hand lines and lineman knot tying
  • Able to identify primary and secondary voltage on circuit
  • Understands excavation and shoring requirements
  • Works in underground trenches and manholes

 What is Required?

  • Must possess at least a valid class A Commercial Drivers License permit upon hire
  • A Commercial Drivers License is preferred
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Able to travel long distance on short notice, when required
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
  • Able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested
