POSITION GOAL

The driver is responsible for daily operations of a year-round mobile food pantry distribution serving low-income food desert communities within our region in addition to all areas of warehouse work as assigned. The driver follows all program guidelines, food safety and safe driving requirements as well as completion of all required daily documentation.

 

WAGE AND SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm (Several days per week require working until 6 or 7 pm)
$20.19-$21.87/hour

*This position is eligible for a $1200 retention incentive after successfully completing 180 days of employment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Safely transport food product using the agency vehicle for year round mobile food pantry distribution, partner agency deliveries and donation pick up.
  2. Hands-on daily food reservoir warehouse responsibilities. Includes but not limited to picking orders, loading truck and transporting products using a truck or van as needed.
  3. Follow all Civil Rights training guidelines in accordance with the distribution of the TEFAP product and will ensure all volunteers do the same. This includes, but is not limited to, providing equal treatment for all recipients, to provide clients with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities as a program recipient, to eliminate barriers that prevent or deter people from receiving benefit and to promote dignity and respect for everyone. All front-line workers, including volunteers, must complete annual civil rights training.
  4. Follow the Standard Operating Procedures for the Mobile Pantry Safety Program and understands all requirements within the procedures
  5. Maintain proper storage of product during transport and distribution in compliance with Feeding America and AIB guidelines.
  6. Responsible for tracking maintenance of a vehicle, proper fuel levels, documenting mileage and communicating any repairs or vehicle checks needed on vehicle, tires, and equipment used to Warehouse Operations Manager.
  7. Respond to a team member, volunteers, and supervisor needs in a timely manner.
  8. Operate a forklift and electric pallet jack to complete the necessary work.
  9. Facilitate the distribution of food at mobile pantries through volunteer management to ensure a positive experience for clients. Volunteers must have a clear understanding of the expectations; each group must be trained on food safety, distribution expectations, and clean up processes. The Mobile Pantry Driver is accountable for ensuring volunteers are distributing food as expected by the HACAP Food Reservoir and should notify the Program Coordinator if issues arise that they are not comfortable handling, such as discrimination.
  10. Upon return to the warehouse, unloading of trucks, weighing and recording of the returned product, restocking of product and supplies, and cleanup of the truck. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. One year related experience, preferably in food warehousing and/or delivery.
  3. Work experience that demonstrates the ability to follow and communicate instructions.
  4. Work experience that demonstrates the ability to solve practical problems with flexibility.
  5. Experience with operating warehouse equipment (i.e.: power jack, pallet jack, forklift) 

 

Skills and/or Abilities

  1. Ability to read and write and keep records utilizing basic mathematical skills.
  2. Ability to work independently and interdependently with other staff and volunteers
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to have positive and effective communication with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Must be able to climb in and out of the delivery truck multiple times daily. Ability to load and unload product.  Ability to drive vehicle with multiple stops daily.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Class B CDL with air brake endorsement preferred or Class C non-commercial/Class D Chauffeur License Endorsement 2 required. Able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  2. Proof of valid personal car insurance.
  3. Must pass fit for duty testing prior to starting employment.
  4. Able to pass forklift certification within 30 days of employment as provided by employer.
