Balfour Beatty Infrastructure in James City, North Carolina is currently undertaking the $203MM US-70 James City project. This is a design-build highway project will improve the capacity and operational efficiency for the portion of US-70 through James City.

We have an immediate opening for Field Engineers to join the team. As a Field Engineer you will provide technical engineering information to company supervision and crafts to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards.

Essential Functions

  • Interpret design/drawings for crafts installing material
  • Research, recommend resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors
  • Verify all completed work, complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications
  • Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor
  • May provide technical support and direction of project material control functions including implementation and operation of maintenance program
  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
  • May provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials. Responsible for management of materials
  • Track quantities and production quantities for work performed
  • Perform additional assignments per supervision's direction
  • Provide assistance to Project Supervision with all aspects of project
  • Prepare and submit subcontract and vendor submittals for owner review and approval. Preprare responses where necessary.
  • Perform tasks related to collection and evaluation of data required to monitor project schedules. Learn to apply the principles and techniques of resource monitoring to specific tasks.
  • Gather cost and information to price additional work to the owner
  • Assist in writing purchase orders, subcontracts and change orders

Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings/specifications, building materials, and required standards applicable to discipline.
  • Experience with construction management for heavy highway projects is highly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and basic computer knowledge.
  • Schedule software (P6 or MS Project), AGTEK and CAD are a plus.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others.
