JOB SUMMARY:

 The Application Engineer is responsible for creating a solution concept for a customer problem and providing the sales department the tools required to market it. This includes cost estimates, concept images, scope description, theory of operation and estimated delivery schedule.

 JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Define project scope based upon customer needs and process requirements.
  • Work with supplier partners to leverage their experience to develop and optimal solution.
  • Complete conceptual and working designs of automated cells, assemblies, and other equipment using CAD software in compliance with engineering theory and principles, per Adaptec standards and customer specifications.
  • Develop cost estimates for the proposed project scope.
  • Travel to job site to perform site audit, review concepts with customer and support the sales team.
  • Assist in completing designs of new company product and automation concepts.
  • Perform calculations and simulations including FEA, moment loads, tool weights, and robot payloads.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested to support service operations and staff.
  • Act as the engineering liaison between sales and operations.
  • Assume the duties of a project Technical Lead upon request.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

  •  Bachelor’s degree in engineering/engineering technologies, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of automation experience.
  • AutoCAD proficiency required.

 SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTES NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB:

  •  Proficiency with the following design tools/elements:
    • AutoCAD 2D
    • AutoCAD Inventor
    • HyCAD
    • SolidWorks
    • Order Drawings
    • Approval Drawings
    • Installation Drawings
    • Microsoft 365
  • Subject expert in the following areas:
    • Conveyors
    • Material Handling
    • Palletizing
    • End of line packaging
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices, complex mathematical and engineering formulas, and material testing practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of machine and manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking, negotiating, managerial, organizational, decision-making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in engineering design, drafting, and computer aided design and drafting software, and project management software.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to read plans, specifications, and schematics.
  • Demonstrates organizational and project management skills, including ability to set and manage multiple priorities, and to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and data files.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with diverse internal and external groups.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and industry related technical instructions and specifications in mathematical or diagram form to understand and define product requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be comfortable with occasional travel.
