Job Description
GEI is seeking respected professionals who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI’s growing design team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeological design/engineering solutions for our clients in the Ontario Market.
The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a Senior Materials Testing & Inspection Technician to join our existing technical team working on projects across Ontario. This position is based in GEI’s office in Barrie, Ontario with some flexibility for remote work and working 40 hours per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer for engineered fill, bedding, backfill, granular base and sub-base, asphalt, etc.
- Sampling of soil, granulars and asphalt for laboratory testing.
- On-site concrete testing or sampling.
- Subgrade, foundation, and rebar inspections.
- Geotechnical laboratory testing (i.e. water contents, hydrometers, etc.).
- Materials laboratory testing (i.e. proctors, granular sieves, concrete, etc.).
- General CAD design.
- Maintain testing equipment in a good condition and maintain calibration.
- Prepare field inspection reports.
- Communicate field results with contractors and supervisor.
Qualifications
- College diploma in Civil Engineering required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience preferred.
- Interested in teamwork, autonomous, and organized.
- Good physical condition.
- Valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle which may be used to travel to and from site.
- Ability to work out of town when needed.
- Available to work on different shifts and schedules.
- Available to work on weekends on short notice.
- Attention to detail and problem solving.
- Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules on short notice.
- Ability to listen, learn, & apply as instructed by immediate supervisor.
