The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of experience in geotechnical and/or geostructural engineering, such as excavation support systems, trenching, and foundations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture and expect that you’ll work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with group leadership, staff management, recruiting, and mentoring tasks.

These are some of the key technical responsibilities for this position:

  • Geostructural design of excavations, foundations, and other subsurface structures;
  • Preliminary engineering and pre-bid design;
  • Geotechnical instrumentation;
  • Overseeing and managing projects and coordinating with other practices and/or offices to facilitate project delivery;
  • Managing and mentoring staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Reviewing and managing written document production;
  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; and
  • Identifying project opportunities and preparing proposals.

Here are some other things you should know about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Project dependent; typically, up to 10%
  • Overnight travel: Project dependent; typically, up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering from an ABBT accredited college or University. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain within 6 months. (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 7 years of experience in geotechnical and/or geostructural engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Slope/W, and PLAXIS. (preferred)
  • Experience with project management, business development, and leadership. (preferred)
  • Excellent leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
