Concrete Finisher

JOB DESCRIPTION

 Position Overview

The Concrete Finisher is responsible for safely performing a variety of construction duties to assist the utility and/ or grade crews at various construction site locations. This position involves smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete, such as sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. The position is responsible to align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids; and use saws to cut expansion joints and other various manual tasks.  Work will involve physical exertion of a practical nature. Work will be performed per the supervisor's instruc­tion, free from direct supervision except for more complicated jobs. 

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Hand shovels and rakes to perform groundwork.
  • Uses various equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Positions Checks the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
  • Sets the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them.
  • Spreads, levels, and smooths concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces
  • Spreads concrete
  • Monitors how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Signals truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
  • Produces rough concrete surface, using broom.
  • Operate power vibrator to compact concrete.
  • Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power grinders, or hand tools.
  • Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using power saw and drill.
  • Wet concrete surface and rub with stone to smooth surface and obtain specified finish.
  • Clean chipped area, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
  • Performs other laborer duties as required.
  • Performs job site clean-up.
  • Maintains all tools and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • May operate equipment as needed if trained, including skid steer and other equipment. 
  • Inspect completed work to ensure proper installation
  • Other duties as assigned per supervisor

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
