Job Description – Asplundh Brush Control Manager (Region 185)

 

Within Asplundh Brush Control (ABC), LLC, the Manager is responsible for managing right-of-way clearing, maintenance, vegetation management projects, and other construction/maintenance services for multiple customer contracts in the New England and Mid-Atlantic markets.  This oversight responsibility includes the safety, profitability, financial controls, work quality, operational performance and customer satisfaction of all work performed by Asplundh Brush Control crews.  He/she will be tasked with preparing and maintaining a list of unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors, and estimating cost for new work.

The Manager position, centralized in NY State, will consist of managing a region with approximately 60-100 employees that covers a geographical footprint throughout the New England & Mid-Atlantic markets.  Projects and/or special projects can be bid throughout these areas annually.  Approximate annual revenues are $10M - $15M.  This can vary up or down depending on project opportunities.

This position reports to the Sponsor and has the direct oversight of four field mid-level management professionals who directly supervise all field employees and activities to ensure projects and/or contracts are successfully completed on time and within budget.  Additionally, this position has direct oversite of four office and administrative staff members in the Central NY office.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight of four field mid-level management personnel and four office and administrative office staff.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and manage qualified crews through a team of supervisory personnel.
  • Conduct regular training and development programs to achieve a high level of performance of all personnel.
  • Administer all Company policies relating to employment, safety, equipment, reporting, public relations, etc.
  • Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Prepare and submit bids or proposals for right-of-way clearing, maintenance vegetation management projects and other construction/maintenance services.
  • Analyze cost reports, cost registers, equipment expenses and other weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports received from the Home Office.
  • Cost Control Management of all Projects for P&L.
  • Require the regular inspection, care and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and materials within the Region.
  • Ensure that safe work practices are followed consistently by all personnel under his/her supervision.
  • Comply with all applicable government regulations including: OSHA, DOT, EPA, EEOC, IRS and others at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Achieve maximum production efficiency of all crews working on hourly as well as fixed contracts, by keeping sufficiently detailed cost-analysis records.
  • Deal effectively with union handling grievances and maintaining a competitive, qualified workforce.
  • Develop solid working relationships with all levels of customer personnel to maintain professional standards while expanding existing accounts, as well as new business.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the Electric Utility Transmission Vegetation Industry, Environmental Compliance, and/or Civil Land Clearing/Construction.
  • Must be willing to live in Central NY or within two hours of the office.
  • Must be able to demonstrate Leadership Skills that incorporate complete ownership for all aspects of the Operation.
  • Proven ability and track record to grow the business through bidding (pricing work), marketing and employee staffing.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills; ability to work with and build relationships with our customers while meeting their short-term and long-term needs.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Understanding of and utilization of KMZ files (provided by the utility customer that allows review of the project usually tied to Google Earth overlays).
  • Oversight of Equipment Fleet that is assigned to the Operations.
  • Oversight for Compliance of Corporate and Governmental Policy of the Operations.
  • Ability to work with field management staff and effectively communicate/coordinate/direct work.
  • Safety skill sets and values that are aligned with our Corporate Safety Programs, goals, and objectives.
  • Willing to travel on a frequent basis to look at bid work on special projects and be on site as needed.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and Motor Vehicle Records Check (MVR).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
