ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of colleagues, clients, and stakeholders on a wide variety of water resource projects;
  • Hydrologic and pollutant load modeling of watersheds and stormwater infrastructure;
  • Hydrology and hydraulics [engineering calculations and modeling] of open channels and stream systems, including floodplain modeling;
  • Watershed, stormwater management, and stream restoration design and analysis;
  • Stormwater best management practice (BMP) design and performance assessment;
  • Field investigations and construction assistance services;
  • Assisting with preparing environmental plans, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs);
  • Helping clients meet their obligations under local, state and federal regulations and permits pertaining to surface water or stormwater;
  • Supporting a company-wide initiative to expand urban stormwater/green infrastructure services;
  • Technical document preparation, including technical writing, construction specifications, and creation of drawings, exhibits and maps; and
  • Broaden our reputation via visibility or engagement at prominent industry conferences and/or organizations.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, boater certification, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 30%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 10%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, biosystems engineering or closely related discipline. (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil, environmental, biosystems engineering or closely related discipline. (preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration or passing grade in Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam. (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration or passing grade in Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam within six months of hire. (preferred)
  • Ability to obtain P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration, if applicable, within four years of employment. (strongly preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Related environmental or engineering experience. (preferred)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D, and/or ESRI ArcGIS. (required)
  • Experience with relevant modeling software including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and EPA-SWMM. (preferred)
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis using software such as Microsoft Excel or programming languages such as R or Python. (preferred)
  • Understanding of national and state regulatory drivers including the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and the Clean Water Act (CWA). (preferred)
  • Experience in interdisciplinary environments with multiple collaborators and stakeholders. (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to help grow our Michigan Water Resources Practice under the guidance and mentorship of experienced business development professionals. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
