Position Summary
The Overhead Crane Operator will be responsible for moving and positioning loads. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates traveling or stationary overhead crane to lift, move, and position loads, such as machinery, equipment, and solid or heavy material, using hoisting attachments, such as hook, sling, electromagnet, or bucket.
- Observes load hookup and determines the safety of the load.
- Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
- Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
- Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of detects or malfunctions.
- Prepares daily inspection reports.
- Must adhere to all company safety/OSHA rules and regulations.
- The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
Qualifications
High School education or equivalent is preferred. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a crane operator. Must be able to pass company certification tests. Must have ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and able to climb stairs up to 150 feet. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently during the course of the day. Must have excellent vision either naturally or with correction. Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations, and a dusty, noisy work environment.
