General Summary
The Equipment Operator is capable of operating various pieces of equipment. The Equipment Operator helps
do multiple tasks to keep the operations in motions. In this position routine duties are performed with minimal
supervision. Standard practices or procedures allow the employee to proceed alone at routine work. There
is an occasional check of work while in progress and work is reviewed upon completion. Good judgment and
common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks assigned. Normal work hours are 7:00am until
6:00 pm Monday through Friday with weekend work as needed. The work hours may fluctuate with the
production goals. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. It is
not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time
The Role
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1.Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to
a supervisor and/or Manager Safety & Health.
2. Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock,
MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
3. Operates mobile machinery and equipment used to drill, blast, crush, screen and load hard rock, sand,
gravel, and other raw materials as needed.
4. Responsible for the movement of materials, to perform preventative maintenance & minor repairs on
equipment, and working with others on daily goals of production.
5. Ability to operate equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively.
6. Performs all work in a safe, efficient manner, following routine and all standards of performance. Work is
repetitive and continuous.
7. Maintains the daily cleanliness of the equipment.
8. Completes any daily equipment tasks that are given.
9. Assists weekly in the loading of the trains.
10. Assists weekly in dipping the ponds
11. Assists weekly in grading haul roads.
12. Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
13. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
14. Performs other duties assigned.
Required Experiences
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. Three (3) to Five (5) years prior related
experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to read and comprehend, in English, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability
to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group
situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of dollars and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
