Job Description:

Provide customers, sales and operations staff with operational support and technical guidance through product and technical knowledge, while performing quality control duties as needed and assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Daily activities can include but are not limited to…

  • Visit project job sites, attend “pre-pour” meetings and attend technical and other concrete placements.
  • Communicates with customers, sales, and operations to ensure internal and external customer’s needs are met.
  • Provide Technical Services for customers, architects, and engineers as well as internal customers.
  • Testing of Fresh Concrete properties at batch plants as required including but not limited to: Temperatures, Slumps, Airs, Unit Weights, Yield calculations, cylinders and beams.
  • Adjustment of concrete mix designs at plants as needed.
  • Trouble shoot problems with both plastic and hardened concrete, typically physical properties such as slump, air, work-ability, finish-ability, pump-ability, cracking, scaling, honeycombing, discoloration etc.
  • Perform the duties of a CPI (Certified Plant Inspector), as well as, ACI & ASTM concrete and raw materials testing.
  • Assist in training operations personnel on product quality, features and benefits
  • Accurately complete all documentation and reports.

 

Technical and Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma, or demonstrable equivalent.
  • Possess appropriate driver’s license and all applicable license endorsements. Driving record must not cause an adverse insurance risk rating or premium increase, and not have any moving violations in the previous 6-months.
  • IDOT Aggregate Sampler or Aggregate Technician OR ability to obtain within one (1) year.
  • IDOT PCC Technician’s 1 and 2 Certifications OR ability to obtain within one (1) year.
  • ACI Field Grade I OR ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Knowledge of the Command Alkon or similar system is greatly beneficial.
  • General knowledge of the following is a plus;
    • Concrete raw-material properties and characteristics.
    • Concrete performance and properties.
    • Mix designs.
  • Must have knowledge and familiarity with personal computers.
  • Must accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and performing area and volume computations using fractions, decimal equivalents, and whole numbers.
  • Must be proficient at reading, understanding, and speaking the English language.

Must possess complete knowledge of the Company’s policies especially those pertaining to safety

 

Work Experience Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years’ experience in construction materials testing preferred (but willing to train the appropriate individual).

 Physical Requirements: (lifting, climbing, agility, repetitions, environmental conditions, exterior or interior conditions, hand-eye coordination) 

  • Must test negative on the pre-employment drug-screening test.
  • Must be capable of driving vehicles in off-road conditions for extended periods.
  • Does not have any allergic reactions to concrete or asphalt, its raw materials, ingredients, and additives, gasoline, diesel fuels, lubricants, solvents, or cleaning chemicals.
  • Requires physical exertion, standing, walking, and/or climbing in various climates and ground conditions, including temperature extremes, rain, wind, and snow for extended lengths of time.
  • Must withstand continuous exposures to wind, dust, fumes, and noxious odors.
  • Must possess unrestricted mobility to twist, turn, bend, and lean in all directions, lookup, down and side to side without hesitation or discomfort.
  • Except for conventional corrective aids, must possess normal eyesight, depth of perception, field of vision, normal hearing, quick reaction time, unimpaired eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility, and balance to ascend access ladders and steps, and to maneuver on equipment and vehicles without assistance.
  • Must repetitively climb and dismount from a high vehicle cab 50-times a day.
  • Must repetitively lift and carry awkwardly shaped objects weighing up to 60-pounds, 50-times a day.
  • Skeletal, joint and muscle system must withstand continuous impact from driving activities. 

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Varied starting time, Monday through Friday with weekend and some holiday and evening work required, generally 48-52-hours per week, as required by production schedules or completion deadlines. This position is subject to Winter layoffs.
  • Various plant sites as required by production schedules.
  • Construction environment.
  • Out-of-town assignments required.
