We are currently seeking an ESG and Sustainability Director. In this role, you will establish the direction and implement, measure, and report on APi Group’s ESG initiatives, in close collaboration with multiple departments and key internal stakeholders. This person will be responsible for monitoring APi Group’s global ESG landscape, evaluating how ESG trends and requirements will impact APi Group, and will recommend and prioritize key strategies, performance indicators, and programs to improve ESG and sustainability outcomes. The ESG & Sustainability Director will be both strategic and able to execute with independence and will serve as the ESG reporting expert for the company. A key success factor for this role is interest and ability to bridge across segments, companies, and cultures to drive impact that is both integrated in and reflective of the business and the company’s vision for environmental and social impact.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:  

Work across a diverse group of stakeholders (Investor Relations, IT, Legal, Finance, People, and Operations) to define goals for each business unit, and partner effectively to implement and track progress against these goals

Develop and implement stakeholder engagement and communications strategies to align stakeholder involvement with APi Group’s ESG goals and timetables.

Apply relevant standards and frameworks (e.g. SASB, GRI, SDGs) to APi Group’s ESG and environmental sustainability effort; use data, benchmarks and insights from evolving ESG standards to evaluate company performance

Develop measurement policies and implement governance processes and disclosure controls to ensure completeness and accuracy of ESG reporting across all divisions

Partner with Internal Auditor to establish and maintain sustainable processes and systems to gather reliable data from various sources, while making sure that appropriate documentation is maintained and can pass through reasonable assurance and/or full assurance as needed

Develop the overall narrative for APi Group’s ESG & Sustainability efforts in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team, including internal and external communication strategies

Guide ESG reporting and communication strategy to align with regulatory requirements, customer priorities, and public-market investor expectations

Continuously monitor ESG developments, industry standards, and regulations that may affect the company, adapting the program as appropriate

Partner with Investor Relations, Legal, Sales, and Communications teams to gather, verify, and prepare data for investor, customer, and board reports and presentations

Manage APi Group’s cross-functional ESG team, including annual cadence for reporting and disclosures and financial planning for ESG and environmental sustainability investments; effectively manage outside consultants/vendors

Represent APi Group externally with relevant industry coalitions and internally to employees and executives

Developing metrics, analyzing, and tracking progress on ESG performance across the portfolio

Own reporting and tracking for ESG metrics including environmental sustainability, social and human capital, and corporate governance

Drafting and managing publication of annual ESG reports for LPs

Liaise and manage external consultants and implementation partners

 

Competencies: 

Deep understanding of ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., SASB, GRI, TCFD) required; experience analyzing ESG data and familiarity with ESG scoring and ratings frameworks preferred

Experience managing and analyzing large data sets to produce actionable insights

Outstanding interpersonal & communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills

Ability to develop strategy and drive decentralized programs globally without direct decision-making ability

Demonstrated ability to quickly establish strong relationships across all levels of an organization

Strong organizational skills with ability to influence multiple stakeholders with disparate and sometimes competing priorities

Ability to deal with ambiguity, work under pressure, and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced global and matrix organization

Excellent follow-through and sense of urgency

 

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science/Engineering or related field; Master’s degree or MBA in Sustainability or related technical fields strongly preferred

10+ years of progressively responsible experience in ESG, environmental sustainability, or CSR, with experience in ESG strategy development and reporting

Solid understanding of Sustainability/ESG accounting; Deep understanding of sustainability metrics measurement schemes, including current and emerging reporting frameworks which may include Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, International Integrated Reporting Council Framework, Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures, and the Global Reporting Initiative

High performance individual with organizational transformation experience and understanding of life safety/engineering/construction services operations; Experience in a sector sustainability team preferred

Strong track record of large-scale project management experience and excellent project management skills

Deep knowledge in sustainability, climate change, ESG topics, and current trends.

Prior experience publishing ESG reports highly desired

Exceptional cross-functional management skills; ability to bring people together around a common goal and lead by influence

Highly skilled in data analysis and building smart and efficient cross-functional processes

Strong written and presentation skills for high-visibility storytelling, both internally and externally; adept at synthesizing complex inputs from multiple stakeholders

Prior experience with high-growth companies preferred
