Position Title:  Senior Center Program Coordinator

Department:  Administration

Reports to:  Chief Program Officer

Position Summary: 

The Senior Center Program Coordinator is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day activities of the Heritage Commons Senior Enrichment Center. Responsible for facilities oversight, member and community relations, staff and volunteer oversight, and communication with all constituencies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • As a key member of the Program Team, works with Team to plan and execute programs and activities, evaluates program effectiveness, and implements improvements.
  • Communicates weekly with Chief Program Officer on all facilities issues.
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of volunteers; performs recruitment and selection of volunteers, and material resources; trains volunteers.
  • Works with Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to plan public relations, advertising, marketing, and outreach to support programs and maintain and increase membership base.
  • Communicates regularly with HCSEC membership.
  • Conducts outreach and collaborations with representatives of other organizations to support program needs.
  • Represents HCSEC with colleague agencies throughout Calhoun County area such as Calhoun County Office of Senior Services, Oaklawn Hospital, City of Marshall, and in other forums where issues and resources for older adults are considered. Advocates for policies and resources that support HCSEC mission.
  • Meets and communicates monthly with HCSEC Steering Committee members, develops meeting agenda and meeting minutes, sends reminders to HCSEC Steering Committee members to ensure quorum, informs committee of all significant fiduciary, legal, and programmatic issues affecting the HCSEC. The Program Coordinator is an ex-officio member (non-voting) of the committee.
  • Keeps records and logs of daily member attendance, class attendance, etc.
  • Works in tandem with Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to develop flyers, monthly newsletter/calendar, taking photos at events, keeping center Facebook page up to date with events, etc.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the center daily, monitoring work of sub-contractors (cleaning staff, trash pickup, etc.)
  • Support achievement of agency’s mission and vision and reflects its values in work behavior.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned



High school diploma or GED. 


Bachelor's degree in relevant field.


Three to five years of experience in the aging network working directly with older adults in a community setting including the delivery of programs.   


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in standard practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, record keeping, business mathematics and basic computer application related to work (Word and Excel).
  • Experience in program administration including budgeting, purchasing and personnel management.
  • Above average initiative and motivation.
  • Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
  • Possess a positive attitude and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations in a variety of settings.
  • Above average ability to organize, manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Knowledge of community resources and database management.
  • Familiarity with the greater Marshall community preferred.


MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and software programs specific to the agency for data gathering.  Multi phone line knowledge.
