The purpose of the Purchasing Manager’s role is to focus on project-based purchasing while also managing general material orders on a daily basis. The ability to negotiate, develop relationships, and communicate with vendors is imperative to obtain the best pricing and lead times as required by the job estimate and schedule.

General Duties:

    • Purchase electrical materials- Field material request, take orders, fill thru stock, or purchase order as appropriate.
    • Work with Estimating to develop material standards and item list (database) in a consistent manner
    • Obtain best value lowest cost pricing by competitive processes. Negotiate best vendor pricing for standard materials
    • Shop stock – check stock item levels weekly, reorder weekly as needed
    • Job buyouts – negotiate projects, bundle buyouts
    • Establish a workable daily order routine and communicate it with staff and field.
    • Inventory items and adjustments, transfers to job cost, in manner required to assure accuracy, coordinate with accounting
    • Manage receipts, address delivery shortages, back orders, shipping damages with vendors. (some matters will need immediate communication with field and vendors)
    • Coordinate with shop manager in planning of deliveries and being available to receive deliveries or other tasks to assist field operations
    • Manage vendor return credit authorizations, warranty claims, parts and labor

Project Related Duties:

    • Create and maintain purchase orders on a project/job basis
    • Support estimating with pricing and information
    • Obtain competitive quotations, negotiate the best pricing per job or negotiate blanket pricing when possible.
    • Review quotations with estimator, utilize pull list for material orders, create purchase orders, prepare submittals, produce info for field packages.
    • Ensure technical correctness for material items and proper purchase order detail to track shipping and match invoicing.
    • Manage order processes including special vendor project stock programs
    • Rental equipment, negotiate best price on job basis, coordinate same with field operations
    • Manage shipping instructions and dates. Inform Project Manager of ship dates on orders, working to meet target dates based of the job schedule.
    • Expedite orders as required, coordinate with project manager and field operations
    • Manage bill and hold deliveries to site and associated item receipts.
    • Provide documentation for stored materials billing sufficient for each customer (invoices, pictures)

Requirements:

  • A working knowledge of purchasing procedures.
  • Preferably, knowledgeable of construction/electrical work and an understanding of how materials relate. Or the willingness and drive to learn such work. 
  • Ability to learn and understand job schedules to ensure the required materials are on site as they are needed. 
  • Professional communication skills both verbal and in writing
  • Detail oriented while being able to manage multiple job duties at one time
  • Ability to develop relationships with vendors and negotiate costs
  • Understanding of supply chain order processes, distributors, agencies, manufacturer
  • Skilled at utilizing Excel and/or other Microsoft programs to help analyze reports. Ability to learn other computer programs and industry ERP programs as required by this position.
  • Understanding of shipping and timelines

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years purchasing experience for same or similar industry

Salary Range: Negotiable based on experience. $65,000 - $88,000 Starting Salary with Potential for Bonus
