SEATTLE REP is seeking a skilled Wardrobe Supervisor to join the Costume Department Team. The Wardrobe Supervisor is a critical member of the Costume Department and provides essential support for our high-quality productions.

ABOUT THE POSITION 

This position is responsible for coordinating the care, maintenance, organization, and changes of costume through the dress rehearsal, performance and strike for all Bagley Wright Theatre or Leo K Theatre productions and supervises wardrobe over hire along with the Costume Director. 

 

Essential Functions:  
 

Design Support 

  • Reads and remains knowledgeable about the script and the actions of the play. 
  • Becomes familiar with the design through sketches, fitting photos, and discussions with Design Associate. 
  • Attends a run-through and wardrobe meeting before tech rehearsals begin. 
  • Maintains the integrity of the design throughout the run of the production. 
  • Maintains costumes during performance periods, including but not limited to repairs, laundry, and dry cleaning.
  • Pulls, fits, and alters understudy costumes with the assistance of the Stock Manager and/or the Design Associate for items not available from stock. 

 

Collaboration  

  • Coordinates with stage management and the stage crew regarding set-up and placement of backstage change booths/stations.
  • Collaborates with Wig Master in choreographing quick changes that involve hair and wigs
  • Works with the Draper/Tailor and Design Associate to determine the special needs of costumes regarding quick changes and maintenance.
  • When there is only one wig for one actor: responsible for putting it on and removing it. 

 

Supervising 

  • Is responsible for making over hire dressing assignments and organizing quick changes, in consultation with the Costume Design Associate. 
  • Coordinates day workers as needed and in consultation with the Costume Director. 
  • Consults with the Costume Director regarding the Wardrobe work schedule and the implementation of the IATSE 887 agreement. 
  • Creates and updates wardrobe tracks and runs list documents in co-ordination with Stage Management 
  • Maintains the organization of the wardrobe room and cleanliness of the equipment.
  • Coordinates and performs strike of costumes including laundry, preparing items for dry cleaning, and helping to pack and inventory traveling shows. 

 

Department health 

  • Attends to other assignments as identified by the Costume Director, including but not limited to activities in the Theatre. 
  • Proactive engagement and implementation of EDI (Equity Diversity & Inclusion) practices. 
  • Attends meetings pertinent to production, costumes, all SRT staff and EDI work. 
  • Helps to maintain a respectful work environment. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Commitment to racial equity and social justice.
  • Five years of relevant experience or three years’ experience as either a Wardrobe Supervisor or Dresser for professional theater.
  • Must be a current member of the Theatrical Wardrobe Union, Local #887 or eligible to register with Local #887 prior to or upon being hired by SRT.
  • Experience in all areas of costuming including mending, stitching, quick change rigging, accessories, leather, and jewelry.
  • Ability to work long hours including late nights and weekends.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel. 

 

Desired qualifications 

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of fabrics and their characteristics and care. 
  • Working knowledge of washing machines/dryers, irons, steamers, industrial and domestic sewing machines, garment cleaning techniques and products, and appropriate safety procedures. 
  • Ability to execute major garment repairs including re-cutting and building all or part of a built costume using existing pattern.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time and physically move quickly.
  • The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • The ability to remain calm and focused under stressful circumstances.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with actors, while respecting their privacy.
  • Helps to maintain a respectful work environment.
  • A sense of humor.
