Summit Materials is looking for a Director, Learning & Development to join our growing Talent Development team based in Denver, Colorado. The primary objective for this leader is to establish and deploy learning and development strategy to enable greater organizational capability and foster a continuous learning culture.
Position Overview
Working with leaders and employees across the company, this hands-on leader will drive the development and implementation of key learning and development solutions in support of our strategic business needs and initiatives. This individual will be responsible for transforming Summit Materials into an organization that is known for how its talent development and L&D culture.
The scope and breadth of the learning solutions include but are not limited to best-in class face-to-face learning, eLearning, virtual delivery, simulations, communities of practice, social learning, gamification, pre- and post- work exercises, blended methodologies, and coaching and mentoring.
This leader will have demonstrated excellent leadership, change management, consulting and influence skills while demonstrating the ability to think strategically and translate business performance gaps into learning and development strategies and deliverables that add sustained value overtime.
Key Accountabilities
Proactively identify, develop and execute strategic development opportunities focused on enhancing Summit Materials’ internal talent capabilities aligned with the business strategy. Lead and optimize the process and platforms required to deliver best in class learning and development programs and experiences across Summit Materials.
- Build a comprehensive strategic plan and framework to address learning and leadership development needs.
- Think strategically and translate business performance gaps into learning and development solutions.
- Drive process thinking and the use of metrics throughout the learning function to ensure learning initiatives are linked to business outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal clients. Ensure the L&D team provides superior customer service and support to all internal clients through understanding their needs, measuring effectiveness, and facilitating appropriate change.
- Establish standardized policies and procedures for client engagement; needs assessments; product design, development and delivery; and evaluation.
- Proactively keep abreast of innovation and trends leading the learning space by maintaining an outside network. Incorporate best practices into overall learning strategy as appropriate.
- Support the coordination and delivery of SLT annual meetings. Design and facilitate leadership retreats, workshops.
- Provide group and individual coaching.
- Provide ongoing review of L&D analytics and ROI with plans to ensure data-driven decision making and continuous improvement of the L&D function.
- Effectively manage the Learning + Development budget.
Skills & Experience
- Masters in OD, Human Resource Development, Adult Education, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Psychology, MBA or related field
- 10+ years’ experience leading a corporate learning or talent development function for a mid-large sized organization
- Experience designing, developing and implementing diverse learning solutions
- Solid understanding of evidenced-based education, cognitive learning theory, instructional design and performance consulting
- Experience in leadership assessments and facilitation
- Experience in building and integrating a suite of offerings across delivery channels (face-to-face conferences, online learning, webinars, etc.)
- Experience with current and emerging technology tools and platforms that will transform the delivery of learning products in the future
- Experience in design, development and delivery of professional and leadership development programs
- Must be highly collaborative, and able to build strong relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization
- Must interact effectively on cross-organizational teams
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high quality results
- Strong analytical skills, facilitation and business planning and project management skills
- Experience developing and presenting reports, trends and recommendations to key stakeholders and senior leadership
- Deals well with ambiguity and can effectively cope with change and demonstrate the ability to shift direction as needed to address emerging organization and client needs
- Drives for results and can be counted on to successfully execute goals and steadfastly push oneself and others for results
- An agile work style is required with ability to quickly learn about and work with a highly creative, design focused workforce
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
