Your role at GEI.

This position is responsible for engineering technical support and construction management for operations and projects from Pre-Construction through the Close-Out Phase at a site in Western Virginia and other sites throughout the mid-Atlantic and southeast US.  Individual must be able to manage civil and environmental projects in accordance with construction designs, plans and specifications. Must have the ability to ensure that the project is being constructed in accordance with project guidelines, design details, specifications, schedule, and within budget constraints. Individual will work directly with Contractors and Clients for successful project completion. This position will be based from Roanoke, Virginia. 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Review and understand proposals, construction drawings, specifications, permits and layouts.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with project managers, support staff, clients, and contractors for construction engineering oversight.
  • Technical support and accountability for onsite operations of construction projects from the Pre-Construction Phase through the Construction Phase to Project Close Out.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with clients and designated representatives.
  • Follow and enforce applicable safety precautions and programs.
  • Ability to support various technical services in the region.
  • Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda.
  • Participate in business development activities and contribute to office growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management. Associate degree considered with applicable experience.
  • 5-15 years of previous experience as a construction manager or senior technician.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, Civil 3D, and GIS is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
  • 40 hr. HAZWOPER training is desirable.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
