HR Works is partnering with its client, a non-profit organization located in Rochester, NY, with its search for a Controller.

Main functions:

  • Manages the Accounting Department’s staff of four and ensures efficient operations of the accounts payable and reporting group.
  • Directs staff in completing monthly internal financial statements, reports, and annual budgets.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and prepares financial statements for three companies.
  • Performs variance analysis each month end and follows up on variances, reporting updates to the CEO on a monthly basis.
  • Works with site managers to ensure compliance with annual budgets and to ensure an effective flow of information.
  • Manages cash flow across the portfolio.
  • Works internally with managers to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Reviews investments, cash and 401k accounts, and reconciliations prepared by staff. Works with CEO and broker in portfolio management.
  • Plays a critical role in Risk Management. Works with the broker to ensure proper insurance coverage across the enterprise.
  • Works in conjunction with Assistant Controller in scheduling year end external audits.
  • Assists the Development Officer in accumulating data for loan applications associated with development projects.
  • Assists CEO in other projects/duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • P.A. or other professional certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong analytical skills; excellent communication skills.
  • Able to lead by example with a positive attitude and achieve consistent performance.
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams is strongly preferred.
