Summary

Balfour Beatty is currently seeking a Corporate Trainer / Facilitator for the Learning and Development team. An initiator with an action-oriented team that thrives on collaboration, leveraging cross-functional expertise, and challenging the status quo to most effectively deploy our programs to help our employees achieve maximum impact.

Purpose

This role will focus on facilitating learning and development programs designed for executives, managers, and teams in the construction industry, to support companywide initiatives, business strategies, and projects. The position is responsible for facilitating programs Balfour Beatty already has in place, as well as planning, designing, developing, and delivering new programs across multiple business units, locations, departments, and platforms. This role will work collaboratively across the organization to establish meaningful and effective learning experiences that build capabilities and leadership competencies in a decentralized work environment. 

Essential Functions

  • Deliver best in class training to new and existing employees, managers, and executives across the organization
    • Instruct on a variety of content, engage learners, and manage training environments with full confidence and preparation
    • Facilitate instruction through web-based course content, online webinars, face-to-face instructor-led courses, individual coaching sessions
    • Communicate subject matter effectively by properly understanding the needs of the audience and targeting the sessions to meet their education level and skill
  • Define learning objectives and organization requirements for education and lead the development and creation of course content to support objectives
    • Leverage both asynchronous and synchronous modalities in deploying learning
    • Establish timelines, coordinate resources, revise course content and roll out training programs
    • Design new programs, including flipped classroom and blended learning
    • Determine the most effective medium or mediums to deliver training or facilitate presentations
    • Work with external partners to find and deploy content
    • Stay up to date on new product enhancements, functionality, learning and development best practices and industry changes
  • Measure the effectiveness of training programs and collaborate on necessary revisions and changes to implement across the organization
    • Ensure training participants have assimilated knowledge
    • Follow-up with training participants to ensure the successful transfer of knowledge into practice
    • Evaluate participant knowledge and skill-set ability through observation and assessments
    • Coach and mentor employees during and after training workshops
  • Facilitate team building and integration exercises across projects, departments, locations, and business units
    • Apply appropriate approach to team building based on the specific needs of a team and the critical outcomes to be achieved
    • Ensure the activities chosen are the best for the team based on goals and shared outcomes
    • Introduce activities, explain the objectives, answer any questions, and provide team members with the information and materials they need
    • Ensure activities run smoothly and encourage continuous engagement from participants

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; candidate’s certifications and demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Has 5+ years training/facilitation and curriculum/course design experience across diverse settings
  • Can travel up to 50%
  • Maintains understanding of education and training methods, practices, and technologies
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of adult learning theory
  • Pays meticulous attention to detail in the creation and iteration of work
  • Is capable of meeting critical deadlines and prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates proficiency providing instruction, engaging learners, and managing the training environment
  • Able to present to large groups and speak interpersonally with individuals
  • Has strong content knowledge in the areas of Leadership, Management, Teaming, and other critical professional skills
  • Can utilize project and activity-based learning to bring leadership/management concepts to practical application
  • Is experienced in leading in person, live meeting (virtual), and hybrid programs resulting in strong instructor ratings and participant engagement
  • Is a powerful communicator who demonstrates strong presentation, interpersonal, and storytelling skills
  • Can make sound decisions in identifying training solutions and proactively resolving learner issues
  • Demonstrates a strong team orientation and desire to take initiative and go the extra mile
  • Demonstrates flexibility, and the ability to be resourceful and manage changing priorities
  • Demonstrates high willingness to collaborate and partner with others

Highly desired but not required

  • Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD), Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM), or similar
  • Certifications in personality/behavior/leadership assessments like Myers-Briggs, Gallup’s Clifton Strengths, DiSC, or others
  • Has experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate 360, and other design programs
  • Previous experience working in an operations environment

Working Conditions

The majority of work is completed in an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.  Minimal hazard exposure.
