Position Description

Assemble, install and repair pipes, fitting and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems according to customer specifications and plumbing codes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Study plans and drawings to determine work required and sequence of installation.
  • Inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locate and mark position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, spirit level, and plumb bob.
  • Select correct pipe, elbows, flanges, fixtures and hangers or supports.
  • Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe-threading machine.
  • Bend pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.
  • Cut openings in floors and walls to accommodate pipe and fittings using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes of different materials such as metals, glass, verified clay or plastic hand held and power tools.
  • Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, mend burst pipes, and open clogged drains.
  • May weld holding fixtures to steel structural members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Completed Plumbing course at a technical or trade school or minimum of 3 years of experience working in the field.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor.
  • Utilize basic math, a ruler and calculator to solve geometric problems associated with running Plumbing Pipe and fixtures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environment.
  • Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background based on job location/requirements.
