Job Type: Full-time - Salary: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year

We are seeking for an experienced Safety Manager to join our team. The Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing the safety of the work site and for enforcing compliance with regulations, reviewing health, safety guidelines to minimize injuries, providing a great benefit to the safety of workers on-site and the company as a whole. A Safety Manager must present and explain site safety plans to people on-site as well as provide training to employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Screen construction projects sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks
  • Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance. Develop inspection reports indicating positive and negative findings for presentation to management.
  • Liaise with external parties such as government-employed inspectors to evaluate the process of construction sites
  • Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites
  • Review projects for adequate disposal systems, evacuation plans, lighting, and ventilation to ensure minimum or no danger to the safety or health of the site guests or workers
  • Maintain safety-related paperwork, including OSHA 300 logs and safety training certifications, such as OSHA OTI
  • Train company employees on safe work practices and emergency procedures
  • Advise management of subcontractors and employees who fail to comply with minimum safety standards and recommend action
  • Represent Nichols in meetings with government bodies and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety
  • Investigate any safety-related incidents and accurately report the facts to management.
  • Manage safety-related issues with interested outside parties, including OSHA representatives.  Represent Nichols in all such matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Safety experience in a related field (construction).
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Must have an Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), at a minimum (Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred)
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • OSHA 30 for construction
  • OSHA 500 preferred
  • Preferred 40- hour EM 385-1-1 Construction Safety Hazard Awareness Course for Contractors, within the past 5 years
  • Preferred USACE Quality Management for Contractors’ certification, within the past 5 years
  • Preferred documented training/competency in managing Excavation, Scaffolding, Fall Protection, Hazardous Energy, and Confined Space safety.
  • Strong communications skills – the ability to communicate effectively both written and oral
  • Good listening skills – the ability to listen effectively and receive feedback from the employee’s perspective without passing judgment
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations relating to the specific trade or activity being managed
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects, and demands
  • Able to handle confidential information
  • Ability to access heights via ladders or scaffolding
  • General knowledge of the work of primary construction trades to develop effective safe solutions as required to maintain construction progress
  • Willingness to stop construction work immediately in the event of an imminent hazard. Immediately inform management personnel.
