Structural Engineer

We are starting a major project in the city of Toronto, ON, Canada. We are looking for the best candidates to join our team and support the project delivery.

 

Project overview:

—    The Ontario Line is a 15.6 km stand-alone rapid transit line that will connect the Ontario Science Centre to Exhibition / Ontario Place.
—    The OLS project, is one of the three P3 contracts to deliver the Ontario Line, it is a design-build and finance contract for the 6 km southern portion of the Ontario Line, from Exhibition / Ontario Place to the Don Yard portal (west of Don River)
—    The scope of the Project includes the design, construction, and handover of all tunnels (twin tube of 6 km each), 7 stations (turnkey for 1 station at grade and 6 underground stations) and civil works.

 

Position's Main Objectives: Ensure that the detailed design is faithful to the guide drawings; ensure that the detailed design is developed to be effectively and efficiently implemented by the construction team.

 

Reporting to: Structures Design Manager or Structures CTO Manager.

 

Principal Accountability & Responsibility:

General advice and co-ordination:
•    Act as a Technical Reference for the construction team; interface with the architectural team; interface with the design team to update the guide drawings in the event of changes in detailed design.
•    Take part and contribute to the design meetings.
•    Attend the site co-ordination meetings.
•    Co-ordinate the MEP drawings for earthing and cast in items.


Management of Staff and Sub-Contractors:
•    Follow-up and manage the performance, and approve the output from the sub-contractors' detailed designers and in house designers for structural detailed design and structural shop drawings.
•    Provide the focus to the independent checking engineer for the review of the designs.
•    Sign off the invoices of the sub-contractors.

Functional Roles and Duties:
•    Review and approve the detailed design outputs from the structural discipline designers.
•    Manage the impact of the structural changes.
•    Manage the closeout of the comments from the independent checking engineer.
•    Verify that the alignment of the tunnels is consistent with the proposed alignment of the track.
•    Manage the Request for Information from the sub-contracted structural detailed designers.

Main Deliverables:
•    Assist in the development of the KPI for design approval in order to build time for the weekly report.
•    Develop and release the design for the Field Change Requests for approval by the independent checking engineer.
•    Issue the necessary permits for the works as well as construction certificates.
•    Release and update the list of Technical Deliverables and the programme of "Planned Technical Deliverables".

 

Key Skills and Knowledge:

•    Expert level of the software needed for deliver the necessary work.
•    Excellent organizational, planning, execution skills.
•    Fluency in English.

 

Education: Degree in Engineering.

 

Experience: minimum 5 years of professional experience in Methods.
