Activity Coordinator

Aberdeen Housing Authority is seeking a part-time Activity Coordinator to carry out various assignments and activities for Central Villa tenants. PT position 20 hrs/week, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., hours will vary, some evening hours if needed.

What you will do:

  • Work with office staff, Homestead Resident Council and Central Villa Tenants to assist in carrying out planned potlucks, catered meals, educational and recreational programs, exercising program, bingo, crafts, and special events.
  • Organize and type monthly tenant newsletter to be distributed to the tenants between the 1st and 3rd of each month.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of activities for distribution to each tenant, as well as one written in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to tenants and visitors.
  • Decorate community room and appropriate areas for holidays and special occasions.
  • Should Noon Senior Nutrition Meal Program be initiated, additional hours for on-duty could increase.
  • Check bathrooms and spot clean as needed; clean kitchen and community room as needed.
  • Maintain offices in a neat and organized manner. Keep clean, to include vacuuming and dusting.
  • Upon approval of Supervisor, purchase supplies and materials to carry out weekly tenant activities. Periodically review budget with supervisor.
  • Compile list of commonly used products (such as toilet paper, coffee ect.) and give to Administrative Assistant to order.
  •  Will contact relatives at tenants’ request and may act as liaison with relatives.
  • Any other reasonable related duties as assigned.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good grammar, typing, computer skills and be artistic.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation.
  • Must be able to communicate with elderly, demonstrate patience and tactfulness, without allowing tenants to over-utilize time.
  • Must be able to rearrange community room furniture and set up banquet tables, chairs, and necessary equipment, as need dictates.
  • Computer and office skills required. Accurate typing speed of 50 wpm desired. Customer service experience preferred.
