Job Summary
Operates equipment to include a rubber tire loader, track dozer, rockdrill, skid loader, excavator, or haul truck to transport bulk materials. Monitor the plant (conveyors, pumps, washers, etc.) while it is running for any equipment failure. Provide other support maintenance/mechanical facility work by performing the following tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

As needed, use equipment to work around the plant.

Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, moves levers, and turns steering wheel to operate equipment.

Maintain the shop & equipment according to safety standards.

Clean shop, office, restroom, scale rooms and equipment on a regular basis.

Check brakes, tires, springs, engine oil, etc. on a daily basis.  Grease, change oil, change tires and perform other maintenance as required.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Required previous heavy equipment moving experience.
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills preferred.
  • Must also be mechanically and physically inclined to provide support mechanical skills to the operation.
  • Must be capable of becoming certified on heavy equipment.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the company's insurance program.
  • Must be able to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a trouble shooter and take initiative to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems.  Must be a self starter.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Must be flexible regarding work assignments.
  • Must demonstrate willingness to perform other support duties during non busy times.
  • Must be able to work with various hand tools of the trade.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and good motor coordination skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule during busy season.
  • Must be able to work late or irregular hours.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.

Would regularly climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; able to talk, hear, and smell.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist high and be able to use up to 35 pounds of force occasionally.

Direct frontal reaching is required while the employee may be required to lift 25 pounds over the head occasionally.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Employees are required to wear protective safety gear, eye & ear protection.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, confined spaces and possible extreme heat.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The employee will also climb stairs or ladders to access the plant or equipment. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

Employees are required to wear protective ear protection. 

There are some chemical exposures that are part of performing the job. 

SDS sheets are available in the department. 

Plant and field environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases and chemicals.   

This is a non-smoking/vaping campus.

Condition of Employment
Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements.  Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with back screens (if required) are conditionof employment.
