Position Summary:

To perform tasks directly associated with construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities and support natural gas emergency response.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs all tasks associated with construction, operation and maintenance and service of electric facilities in accordance with the Cooperative’s safety rules, regulations and practices.
  • Adhering to safety policies, procedures and government regulations
  • Assists with accurately reporting plant, payroll and other records by thoroughly completing required paperwork such as work orders, material sheets, time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Must maintain regular on call status, live within 30 minutes of URE Headquarters and be willing to help other URE crews on a 24-hour basis as needed.
  • Exercises professional courteous conduct in dealing with customers/members, other employees, and the general public while protecting a positive public image.
  • Assist with the objective of maintaining a safe workplace by maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Assist as needed and directed to keel the warehouse/material storage areas and vehicles neat and clean at all times while completing all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provides support during outages by restoring services to customers/members as described in the Emergency Outage Plan. Provides natural gas Local Distribution Company (LDC) emergency response,
  • Assist in achieving a greater degree of teamwork by performing all other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Electrical Distribution Line Technician or Journeyman A certification is required.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Shall be able to perform the duties of and meet the qualifications of a Line Technician A or Journeyman A through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Cooperative.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Must be able to interact effectively with employees, customers/members and general public in a variety of situations, exercising good judgment and maintaining a positive company image.  
  • Must be able to interpret wiring diagrams, instruction manuals and possess knowledge of NESC, NEC and RUS construction standards in addition to Cooperative Terms & Conditions for Supplying Electric Service. 
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the Cooperative’s mapping system or be able to learn the mapping system within the first 6 months.
  • Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to electric distribution systems.
  • Must be able to properly lift 75 pounds from the floor to waist.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
  • Must be trained or be willing to be trained in natural gas emergency response procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively coordinate work and direct the actions of other line personnel.

Working Conditions:

Workday hours shall be determined by management with regular turns “on call”.  Overtime can be expected with duration of up to 16 hours.  Heavy physical labor outside is the norm.  Some travel for training and mutual aid maybe required. Occasional travel to assist other cooperatives recover from outage events (mutual aid) may be required.

You’ll join a goal-oriented team where you’ll assist in all types of work involved in the installation, maintenance, operation, removal, rearrangement and inspection of energized or de-energized electrical facilities. 

Experience Required:

  • Must have good working knowledge of various circuit connections, voltage of lines, phasing and transformer connections, switching devices, ability to interpret field prints and switching diagrams, and know the fundamentals of electricity.
  • Must have or be able to develop good working knowledge of the Cooperative’s transmission and distribution standards.
  • Must be willing to abide by safety manual and outlined requirements.
  • Must have ability to work aloft on poles or working from bucket truck.
  • Capable of making full use of available tools, equipment, and technologies.
  • Effective communication, organization, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Accuracy, self-motivation, and emotional intelligence are required.
  • Aptitude to fulfill all the competencies for the position.

 

Pay Ranges:

  • Journeyman A: $78,274 - $88,741
