Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Shop Service Technician to join our team at the Santa Maria, California location. The Shop Service Technician is responsible for performing complex diagnostics and repairs on construction and CWP (Compact Worksite Products) equipment. This role plays a critical part in supporting Coastline Equipment's mission to deliver reliable service and maintenance, directly contributing to client satisfaction and operational efficiency. The Technician will work within a collaborative team environment and interact directly with customers to address their service needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics and Repairs: Perform complex on-site diagnostics and repairs on construction and CWP equipment, using advanced tools and techniques to ensure the equipment meets industry standards.
  • Training Participation: Engage in required Service EDUCATE Training programs to stay current with industry practices and improve knowledge of John Deere equipment.
  • Customer Interaction: Review and explain maintenance, repair, or service concerns directly with customers, ensuring transparency by documenting all findings on work orders.
  • Service Promotion: Promote and sell dealer service programs to customers when applicable, helping them understand available maintenance options and enhancing equipment performance.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with the Parts Department to implement effective stocking processes, maintaining an up-to-date seasonal parts inventory in the service vehicle.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Maintain current knowledge of John Deere products and competitor offerings to deliver accurate and informed service.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Ensure full compliance with all safety regulations, maintaining the condition of the mobile service vehicle, trailer, tools, and equipment.
  • Documentation and Accountability: Accurately complete all required reports and forms, accounting for time and materials used in performing assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years performing service repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Skills and Expertise: Proficient in performing complex repairs and maintenance tasks, with strong expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with John Deere Service Advisor and basic computer functions to support diagnostics.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly and operate diagnostic vehicles and equipment.
  • Certifications: Forklift license preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Certifications: Advanced or Master Service Technician certification is highly desirable.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite for basic documentation and report completion.

Other Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old to comply with safety regulations.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work hands-on with heavy and diesel equipment.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, crawling, or climbing ladders may be required.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, depending on seasonal changes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Wage: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour, based on experience.
  • Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance, along with paid time off and paid holidays, effective after 90 days of employment.
