The Human Resource Director will join Volunteers of America at an incredibly exciting time. With one eye on the past, 
we are taking aggressive strides forward. As we position VOASELA for continued success, we seek a Human Resources 
Director to create and deliver transformational, strategic direction to align our employees with our mission, vision, 
and core values, and cultivate an environment of accountability, collaboration, service, and engagement. 
The HR Director will serve as a strategic partner working alongside the CEO and key business leaders in reimagining 
and developing effective HR programs and solutions that enrich the organization’s value to employees and other 
stakeholders. The HR Director will also oversee the development and administration of all HR programs including
managing the culture, safety, succession planning, change management, and full employee life cycle. 

The ideal candidate will: 

• Have direct experience expanding HR operations from the ground up, as well as developing, leading, and 
supporting a budding team. 

• Promote a culture of using data and information to learn, improve, innovate, report, and consistently engage 
in data-informed decision-making, ensuring programmatic quality control and improvement, evaluation, and 
accountability.

• Possess and model a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, influence, business acumen, and integrity 
while balancing confidentiality and trust. 

• Foster a healthy, cohesive team environment by leading with high emotional intelligence, integrity, effective 
communication and counsel, setting clearly defined expectations, and promoting efficiency, diversity, 
ownership, and accountability. 

• Seek to grow and lead this function/team with innovation and a keen understanding of relevant HR trends 
impacting the design and delivery of successful programming for now and the future. Must have an 
orientation towards continuous improvement. 

• Maintain a deep understanding of research, emerging developments, and evidence-based practices to 
implement effective programming.

Core Responsibilities 

• Serve as a trusted and knowledgeable advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and senior leadership 
team on all aspects of human resources management and talent strategies; develop relationships with all 
levels of the organization. 

• Evaluate existing programs and ensure that the proper tools and metrics are in place to drive continuous 
improvement. Where appropriate, implement new processes, metrics, and assessments, creating best-in-class 
strategies to improve the employee experience, recruitment, learning and development, and overall benefits. 

• Develop and implement comprehensive HR plan that aligns with the overall mission and strategy of VOASELA
resulting in innovative best practices and policies that will service the full range of HR needs and help build a 
high-performing culture of success, accountability, transparency, and collaboration. 

Advance the human resources function with the use of data, metrics, and key performance indicators to
measure the success of programs, including, but not limited to engagement, retention, recruiting, and 
learning and development. 

• Ensure and maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws as well as all related 
regulatory requirements. 

• Lead, inspire, and develop the HR team, including consistent and ongoing departmental planning, evaluation 
and guidance for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and HR programs, 
providing professional development opportunities, and developing a team of subject matter experts. 

• Manage the HR budget, participate in budget process, and proactively manage resource allocation. 

• Maintain a deep understanding of research, emerging developments, and evidence-based practices to 
implement effective programming.

• Analyze business requirements and determine HRIS requirements to meet data management needs; manage 
maintenance and accuracy of employee data for analysis, regulatory compliance, reporting and distribution; 
develop and sustain appropriate controls to maintain and report information

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred. 

• 10+ years of HR experience, with at least 5 years at Manager or Director level.

• Demonstrated experience leading HR department(s) through strategic and transactional change. 

• Ability to manage budgets, and experience working closely with a CFO to achieve organizational financial 
   goals. 
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including editing skills with meticulous attention to 
   detail. 
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive 
   matters. 
• Experience with Netchex or other payroll system and HRIS software.
