Position: Project Safety Representative
Report to: Safety Manager
Job Description Overview
The successful candidate for the position of Project Safety Representative will work closely with the Safety Manager, Project Management personnel and Field Operations personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work as an on-site liaison between the Kwest field construction team, the project construction management firm, and the third-party safety inspection firm at the Kwest Group CVTRP Access Project in Lynchburg, Virginia, U.S.A.
- Regular travel to all project specific locations and conduct co-inspections as needed with the project safety inspection firm representative to evaluate physical conditions and safety practices.
- Participate in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of the corporate occupational safety and health programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for company team members, subcontractors, and additional stakeholders. Ensure the company programs comply with applicable federal and state health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
- Conduct on-site inspections to evaluate safe work practices.
- Regularly audit field project work to ensure compliance with Kwest Group, site, and client specific safety procedures. Must be able to communicate the findings via a written safety audit report to project managers, audited team members, and senior leadership.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Develop controls for the identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analyses.
- Investigate accident and incident reports within 24 hours of occurrence with the Safety Manager and operations personnel. Analyze reports to identify causal factors, prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards, and communicate information to client contact and appropriate Kwest Group personnel.
- Help with the development, completion, submission, and implementation of Project Specific Safety Plans (PSSP’s).
- Evaluate safety equipment, statistics, or site-specific needs of the project and maintain inventory of PPE and safety supplies.
- Issue stop-work order on work activities that are found to have safety deficiencies.
- Travel to regional offices, if needed.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a safety related field.
- A minimum of five years performing safety duties in civil construction, industrial, engineering, or related field.
- Travel as needed, up to 50%.
- Work approximately 50 – 55 hours per week.
