Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a Controller to join the Accounting and Finance team. CIPCO prefers this position to be located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but would be open to candidates in the Des Moines area as well. This position manages accounting records and cash flow activities, ensuring all are in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices, regulatory requirements, and company policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage Accounting team - assign work, establish priorities, monitor assignments & assess performance, providing feedback to team members; interview / select new hires; determine & implement employee training; address employee complaints; coach & counsel team members for performance; and participate in disciplinary actions or other appropriate actions per policies and procedures in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Control and manage:
- General ledger and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Daily cash flow and liquidity management.
- Loan and credit facility activities.
- Review of invoices and disbursements prior to payment.
- Prepare and/or review:
- Annual operating budget.
- Annual cash budget.
- MISO Schedule “O” tariff rates.
- Indenture and loan covenant compliance filings.
- Other required governmental compliance reports.
- Maintain internal control and safeguards regarding receipt of funds, financial assets, expenditures, and financial/compliance reporting.
- Ensure financial reporting and disclosures remains in compliance with GAAP, applicable financial policies, lender requirements, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Coordinate and manage financial statement audit activities.
- Perform back-office functions relating to financial hedging, including, management of collateral and margin positions, mark-to-market valuations, and settlements.
- Maintain Asset Retirement Obligation cost estimates and non-recurring valuations.
- Oversee and/or completes special management reports and other designated accounting activities.
- Participate in strategic projects and support the Director of Finance and CFO in engaging the Board of Directors regarding financial reporting, policies, and compliance activities.
- Participate in appropriate professional organizations; attends conferences, workshops, and other training necessary to know best practices, identify current and future trends, and maintain/upgrade skills.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Public Accountant designation is required.
- Experience and knowledge of essential accounting practices and procedures required.
- Electric utility industry knowledge preferred.
- Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Is open and reacts positively/productively to change; willingly takes on new challenges; acts as change agent for company.
- Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
- Able to clearly communicate financial information into sound business language for all to comprehend and understand.

- Advanced computer skills, specifically in Excel.
- Experience with financial systems and databases.
- Strong business ethics.
- Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills.
