Summary Job Description

The responsibility of the Detailer is to prepare timely, accurate, detailed drawings in a proactive and professional manner.  Coordinate and properly communicate internally with project manager, detailer, estimators, administrative assistants, field employees, accounting personnel and management to ensure all aspects of the detailing process are thorough and complete. Work closely with project manager to ensure the project needs will be met by the detailed drawings prepared.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop accurate, complete, professional, timely and detailed shop drawings.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings with the leadership team.
  • Generate RFI’s with supporting documentation for the Project Manager as required.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings as needed.
  • Visit jobsites to take accurate field measurements prior to beginning shop drawings.
  • Resolve technical problems.
  • Communicate with the project manager or client as required for clarification on project needs and to resolve issues during the detailing process.
  • Verify that the item being drawn is included in the subcontract, and if not, alert the project manager that a change order may be needed prior to continuing.
  • Pursue on-going professional development training.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Be flexible and keep an open mind to change.

 

Competencies:

  • Building and construction standards and methods.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication and installation including structural steel and miscellaneous metals (i.e. stairs, railing, etc.)
  • Proficient working in CAD, MS Word, Excel and other business-related software, including email, calendars and contacts.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  2. 2 years CAD Software Experience (Required)
  3. 2 years Detailing Experience – Structural Steel (Required)
  4. Detailing Miscellaneous Metals Experience (Preferred)

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment as well as on site at construction locations.  The use of computers, printers, cell phones, telephones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines is required. Other functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The standard outdoor work environment has loud to very loud noise levels associated with various equipment, coworkers and phone conversations. Occasionally work must be performed in high and/or cramped workspaces and awkward positions. The employee  may work around hazardous situations, materials and equipment.
