Job Summary

The Estimator I is responsible for aiding the project lead estimator during the bid process—aids in preparing quantity take-offs on projects. Aids in obtaining price estimates and bids from subcontractors and - material vendors; assists with putting jobs together; prepares project budgets and bids to review with a senior estimator or vice president of estimating; assists in creating cost analyses and studies and keeps updated changes in construction costs.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret plans and construction materials to propose and double-check estimates.
  • Identify and resolve deviations from the proposal, including scope and specifications.
  • Aid in overseeing estimate progress and keep the preconstruction team updated about challenges.
  • Aid lead estimator with all items required to submit bids.
  • Organize, review, and analyze subcontractor quotes.
  • Aid in performing takeoffs across an array of trades.
  • Attend job turn-over meeting scheduled by estimator for Q&A between estimator and project management about job specifics and project management's general-purpose accepting project ownership.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings.
  • Maintain and update historical data.
  • Establish and demonstrate skills and knowledge for advancement to lead estimator position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills are needed to build and maintain relationships with the end-user.
  • General knowledge of labor and material costs, ability to read, interpret and make quantity take–offs from drawings and specifications.
  • General knowledge of construction procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to document and record information.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Effective time management in working with timelines and deadlines.
  • The ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Considerable skills in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and managing confidential information/situations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications

 Required skills needed but not limited to the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction or related field.
  • Strong math ability.
  • One year of experience in construction estimating is preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Knowledge of estimating software or database management preferred
