Job Summary 

Laborers will perform tasks involving physical labor on heavy highway, road and bridge construction projects. Laborers will clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Flagging traffic passing near, in, or around work zones; control set-up and may assist other craft workers and perform other labor related duties as instructed by supervisor.  Must be able to work flexible shifts as needed. Project location is Houston, Texas.

Essential Functions

  • Perform tasks involving physical labor 
  • Load and unload material by hand
  • Flagging traffic passing near, in, or around work zones
  • Control set-up
  • Utilize a shovel to dig trenches
  • May operate hand, power tools, and pneumatic tools
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • May assist other craft workers
  • Perform work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rainy, windy, etc.)
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines set forth in the company’s safety program
  • Lifting, pushing and/or pulling items up to 50 pounds
  • May work longer than 8 hours a day, night shift, more than 5 days a week or weekends, as needed
  • Perform other labor related duties as instructed by supervisor
  • Support various specialty crews

Required Skills & Experience

  • At least 1-year heavy highway, road and bridge construction laborer experience
  • At least 1-year concrete and form setting experience a plus
  • Prefer 1-year pipe experience
  • Physical ability to perform assigned tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, climbing, standing, etc.)
  • Flexibility to work more than 8 hours a day or nights when needed
  • Flexibility to work more than 5 days a week or weekends when needed
  • General labor construction skills
  • Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools of all types
  • Must be able to read a tape measure
  • Knowledge of operating a variety of other construction equipment and instruments is a plus
  • Flagging and Traffic Control certification a plus
  • Previous flagging and traffic control experience a plus
