The McCook County Treasurer's Office is looking for a Deputy Treasurer. The FT Deputy Treasurer assists the Treasurer in the fiscal and investment operations of McCook County funds.

As a Deputy Treasurer, you will perform a variety of duties including:

  • Responsible for the complete and accurate collection of all taxes, assessments, levies and other monies due to the county from all sources of income. Keeps complete and accurate records and updates all tax changes
  • Responsible for the collection of all fees related to motor vehicle licensing, registration, title transfers and taxes
  • Prepares daily check deposits, balancing and posting daily
  • Verifies prior day's business for the state
  • Assists with end of month books
  • Assists with investing county money
  • Assists with applications for tax relief
  • Receives incoming calls and provides customer service
  • Assists public by providing information and answering questions
  • Collection of advance and escrow payments
  • Prepare and send property tax notices to individuals, banks and businesses
  • Prepare and send delinquent tax notices
  • Prepare daily, monthly and annual reports
  • Signs plats in the absence of the the treasurer
  • Any other jobs assigned 

To be qualified for this position, you will need:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Knowledge of general accounting principals
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to tactfully communicate with others, either orally or in writing
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn South Dakota codified laws
  • Knowledge of general office methods and procedures
  • Knowledge and ability to operate required office equipment
  • Ability to utilize various computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) hourly position. On-site work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.
