Overview 

The prime objective of a Chemist I is to conduct the analytical Labatory testing and control work required to make decisions based on data generated through quantitative and qualitative measurements.

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Perform chemical and physical analytical testing in accordance with GAR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), and the Waste Analysis Plan (WAP).
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Notify Chemist(s) if analytical results do not fall under the GAR Acceptance Criteria.
  • Provide additional testing and technical assistance as needed.
  • Make standards and reagents as needed.
  • Empty liquid and solid waste daily in accordance with local, state, and Federal Regulations and notify Shift Chemist(s) on the disposal quantity for recordkeeping.
  • Maintain a 5S work environment.
  • Aid in supply procurement.
  • Periodically review the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Skills & Experience  

  • Analytical mindset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or equivalent analytical science.
  • 3-5 years of experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in Scientific Method.
  • Proficient in mathematics.
  • Proficient in computer usage including Microsoft Office Suite and data entry.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
  • Inductive Reasoning.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Team player.
  • Must display good employability skills (attendance, job performance, attitude, willingness to work, etc.)
