Overview 

This position is an integral part of our Block, Brick & Hardscapes division, reporting to our plant Purchasing Manager. We are seeking a candidate to join our team and mission to deliver quality on every project, backed by our commitment to safety, service and reliability. It’s The Boxley Way. This team member is responsible for many yard and plant aspects and responsibilities that support our customer’s needs. Operating vehicles and forklifts, picking and stocking products, while maintaining a neat and orderly work area.

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Assist customers in selecting the inventory they need. 
  • Load inventory items on company and customer vehicles for shipment out of the yard.  Use forklift, bobcat and handcart or hand-load as required or directed.
  • Perform last quality control inspection on inventory leaving the yard.
  • Maintain work area in orderly and hazard-free condition.
  • Maintain the landscaping in the display yard.
  • Develop very good knowledge of inventory sizes, types, colors and pallet/package counts
  • Perform frequent arithmetic operations to calculate quantity of units per tier and per pallet, and other calculations as required.
  • Operate a forklift and other mobile equipment efficiently and safely and perform daily maintenance of same.
  • Occasionally deliver material on pick-up truck.
  • May be asked to monitor, operate and assist with the maintenance of production equipment.  Additionally, may be asked to perform the following Plant Laborer functions:  Shoveling, cleaning and chipping, greasing different areas of the plant and mixer wash-down and cleaning duties.
  • Perform other functions and duties as required or directed, such as reporting inventory quantities, removing and inspecting returned inventory, preparing makeups, ordering and restocking resale items, consulting with customers on the proper loading of their vehicles, reporting shortages and quality problems immediately, monitoring traffic flow through the yard and reporting problems immediately, reporting customer comments about quality and service, reporting forklift and handcart malfunctions, and performing simple forklift maintenance tasks such as checking fluid and fuel levels.

Skills & Experience 

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Applicants must be 21 years of age to drive a commercial vehicle and 20 years of age for all other vehicles; valid driver's license and company approved driving record is required if authorized to drive either a company or personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Efficient written and oral communication skills, English required.
  • Physical Requirements:  Must be able to: 1.) Lift concrete products and other objects weighing up to 75 pounds each, at heights from floor level to 4 feet high.  Sacked cement up to 75 lbs. each may also be moved as required.  2.) Provide assistance to others in moving heavier or bulky objects.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to meet the physical and visual capabilities/expectations required for success in this role.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug screening standards.
  • Ability to meet and maintain Motor Vehicle Record requirements based on company guidelines.
