FIREFIGHTER / PARAMEDIC or FIREFIGHTER / EMT

Full-time, Non-Exempt

Starting Salary: $43,852 (+$3.00/hr Paramedic Incentive)

Firefighter/EMT may also be considered.

This job is located in the Operations Section of the Mount Dora Fire Department and is under the general supervision of the Lieutenant. Firefighters will perform individually and/or as a member of a firefighting team and will participate in fire suppression activities, including: firefighting, rescue, first aid, ventilation, forcible entry, salvage, overhaul, and inspection practices. Firefighters will attend classroom and drill ground training sessions on a regular basis in order to continuously update their knowledge and skills required for effective work performance. Decisions are made with guidance of a supervisor and on an individual level, and have a direct effect on life and property. General job functions include; (1) Firefighting ­Emergency; (2) Firefighting - Non-Emergency; (3) Emergency Medical Services; (4) Work Related Activities.

 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED required.  Post high school education, especially in fire service, desirable. 
  • State of Florida Certification as firefighter and paramedic is mandatory. 
  • Applicants must have a 16 hour EVOC or CEVO certificate, a current CPR and ACLS certificate.
  • Maintains current EMT Paramedic certification.
  • Applicants who are currently in paramedic school may be considered.
  • Meets the requirements of the Florida Firefighter Standards Council.
  • Must complete the FireTEAM and CPAT testing through the National Testing Network.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.

 

Paramedic Incentive is payable upon completion of the Paramedic Provisional Program in the amount of $3.00/hr.
