Due to recent expansion in the Australian operations, we are seeking an Emerging Leader – Environmental Engineering or Hydrogeology in our Melbourne office.  Our team provides a strong supportive environment for you to grow into an established industry leader, supported by other female and male established industry leaders. This person will have a strong track record of delivering quality products to large clients and managing technical work. You will play a key development and management role in the growth of Geosyntec within Australia. This is a unique opportunity to establish and build a practice, with significant technical and executive support with an internationally respected, employee-owned firm. 

The role requires the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging technical projects and leverage your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities.  You must lead by example by demonstrating and promoting a team philosophy, to work together toward a common goal to achieve exceptional results for our clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments while following Geosyntec’s risk and quality management systems;
  • Designing and providing oversight of site investigations, contamination assessments including tailings storage facilities, groundwater investigations, conceptual site model development, rehabilitation and remediation feasibility assessment, remediation options assessment, remediation design and implementation, and data collection to support human health and ecological risk assessments;
  • Technical direction of site investigation and remediation or rehabilitation projects, including environmental data evaluation and mapping, visualisation, regulatory agency interactions, and reporting;
  • Remedy evaluation, selection, design, implementation, and reporting and/or risk assessment, problem formulation, toxicology/exposure assessment and risk characterisation;
  • Delegating assignments with overall responsibility for completion of tasks within budgetary, schedule, and other internal and external constraints;
  • Support the business development efforts aimed at increasing brand recognition, increasing client portfolios, and establishing Geosyntec as the “go-to” consultancy in the region for challenging environmental problems; and
  • Recruitment of other talented individuals to build the practice.

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and mentoring tasks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Tertiary degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geology, environmental science, environmental engineering or related field. (preferred)
  • 5 + years of relevant work experience, the majority within Australia, in challenging and demanding positions; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • 10 to 15 years of relevant experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to environmental investigation and remediation. (required)
  • Current and valid work authorisation for Australia and a valid Australian driver’s licence and satisfactory diving record for business travel. (required)
