Job Summary

The Safety Manager has companywide responsibility for the Safety Program for all Harbor Linx affiliated companies including McGuire and Hester, Casey- Fogli Concrete Contractors, Inc., and CF&T Concrete Pumping.  Works directly with the Risk Manager and the Chief Legal Officer along with management and operations to analyze, develop and implement programs to beat company, federal, state, local, industry and project specific safety standards and to reduce and prevent the company’s exposure to potential liabilities by tracking and analyzing incident rates and causations. Responsible for ensuring safety training of all employees.  This position serves as a champion for the companywide safety program by positively promoting a safe working environment with a strong emphasis on prevention over reaction.

Typical Duties

  • Develop, maintain, and manage company safety program.
  • Proactively drives all aspects of company safety with a goal of zero accidents and zero damage.
  • Endeavors to keep EMR to be the best of class and below 1.0 rate.
  • Develop and maintain new hire safety orientation and monitor safety training materials and update as necessary.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Estimating for safety related items.
  • Analyze incident data for risk reduction and provide recommendations to Risk Manager.
  • Coordinate Bi-Annual Safety Meetings.
  • Preserve and update Safety Bucks and Safety Scratcher program.
  • Coordinate with Estimating and Operations to conduct and participate in project hand off meetings and prepare preconstruction jobsite reviews as requested.
  • Implement a safety team that will:
    • Provide task specific safety training and ensure that all employee safety training certifications are up to date.
    • Administer and update the Safety Manual, including the Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP), Code of Safe Practices, and pertinent additions.
    • Conduct safety investigations, prepare investigation reports and implementation of remedies for prevention.
    • Assist with pre-construction identification of safety issues and concerns; discuss discovery with jobsite supervisors.
    • Participate in jobsite safety meetings; discuss job specific safety issues with supervisors and crew.
    • Develop and provide safety and procedural orientation to newly hired or promoted Field Supervisors, Leadmen through Project Manager.
    • Ensure that all required postings, permits and safety certifications are up to date, stored in appropriate locations and are easily available to all employees as needed.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of company SWPPP compliance programs.
    • Oversee required badging and logs, including FAA and UPRRR, et.
    • Assist Estimating Department with safety pre-qualifications.
    • Maintain minutes of safety meetings including signatures of attendees.
    • Perform and document random jobsite safety field audits.
    • Keep up to date with contract safety issues. Advise and support project management in their efforts to address jobsite safety requirements.    Attend pre-job meetings as requested.  Discuss any environmental concerns with supervisors and crew.    
  • Attend safety seminars and monitor OSHA updates, counsel management on code changes and

their potential impact to jobsite operations.

  • Be a member of the UCON Safety Committee.

Education and Experience: Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering or

       the equivalent in education or experience; recommended 10 years minimum construction safety

experience.

Language Skills: Must be able to read and write in English at a professional level; bi-lingual in Spanish helpful.

Mathematical Skills: Able to perform construction mathematics calculations.

Planning and Organizing: The individual prioritizes and plans work activities for themselves and others.

Reasoning Ability: This position requires strong problem-solving skills and reading comprehension; must deal with both standardized and non-standard situations with many variables.

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to positively interface with a wide variety of people including clients, employees, managers, agencies, and the public; public speaking is required for this position.

Computer Skills: Must have strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and the Google Suite. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Valid CA Driver’s License and a clean driving record.  Certifications in safety related courses, and current CPR/first-aid certificate.  Prefer CHST, STS or similar accreditation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. 

Pay Scale: $85,000 - $125,000
