POSITION GOAL
Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator will oversee the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program working closely with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
WAGE AND SCHEDULE
Wage is $27.38 - $28.88 hourly depending on education and experience.
Schedule is Monday - Friday with occasional evenings and weekends. Anticipated to be 6 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide oversight, direction, and support for the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
- Supervision of Breastfeeding Peer Counselors including hiring, training and ongoing oversight
- Provide support to WIC as needed.
- Hire and train appropriate staff for breastfeeding positions.
- Attend training, meetings and conferences for Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinators as required/recommended by the HHS contract
- Maintain current data in state data systems.
- Perform quality assurance of Breastfeeding Peer Counselors work.
- Follow HACAP procedure for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Manage a flexible work schedule according to the agreed-upon number of hours scheduled to work per week that meets the needs of the company, clients, contractors, and any other appropriate parties. This may include occasional evening and weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
- Meets the qualifications for a WIC Competent Professional Authority (Physician, Licensed Dietitian, Registered Nurse, or Physician Assistant).
- Experience as a Competent Professional Authority.
- Experience in counseling breastfeeding people.
- Successfully completed (or will complete by August 2023) specialized training in lactation management and care. (IBCLC, CLC, CLS).
- Experience in program management.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Complete Child Abuse Reporter training within six (6) months of employment and update every three (3) years.
- Complete bloodborne pathogen training within ten (10) days of employment and update every year.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid car insurance.
- Reliable transportation for on-the-job use.
