POSITION GOAL

The HS/EHS Nurse will provide on-going monitoring and assistance for Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) staff on health and safety related topics including: provide guidance on health issues and medical care plans, review child health information and provide information and guidance to HS/EHS Families.  Complete child screenings and assessments.   

 

SCHEDULE AND WAGE

Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm; $29.79 hourly

*This position is eligible for a $1200 retention incentive after successfully completing 180 days of employment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure compliance, program records, and documentation required for HACAP programs, child-care licensing regulations, CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, and funding requirements. 
  2. Train Head Start staff on health-related topics, per Head Start Performance Standards, EPSDT, child care licensing regulations, and federal/state funding guidelines.
  3. Track required outcomes measurements for health and safety components.
  4. Provide assistance to Head Start staff on health and safety issues according to the Head Start Performance Standards.
  5. Support Head Start staff, parents, and medical providers to develop and implement medical care plans for use in the child care setting.
  6. Ensure child files are up-to-date and meet health and safety Head Start Performance Standards.
  7. Conduct hearing and vision screenings as needed according to the Head Start Performance Standards.
  8. Conduct on-site assessments of the Head Start settings relating to health and safety.
  9. Provide health information and education to families and children.
  10. Facilitate and recruit representatives for the Health Services Advisory Committee.
  11. Attend meetings and training to keep current on Head Start Performance Standards, child care licensing standards and health practices.
  12. Assist with planning and participate in the annual center review process to ensure quality services to children and families.
  13. Function as a member of the Head Start management team in activities assuring that federally mandated child outcomes are completed and reviewed for areas of strength and growth.
  14. Provides child ratio coverage in the classroom on an emergency basis to meet state licensing and/or federal compliance regulations.
  15. Perform other duties as directed by the Head Start/Early Head Start Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  1. Registered Nurse – licensed in the state of Iowa, BSN preferred
  2. Expertise in community health, maternal and child health

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    1. Receive clearance by the Iowa Department of Human Services on child abuse and criminal checks prior to hire and resubmit every two (2) years.
    2. Pass a pre-employment health examination and subsequent health examinations every three (3) years thereafter.
    3. Maintain nursing licensure.
