OBJECTIVE: The Analyst will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and summarizing research data collected from on-farm agronomic and environmental research trials and studies. Assist in development of on-line decision management tools for farmers and agronomists. Design, develop, and enhance data collection, processing, and reporting tools. This position reports to the RCFI Analytics and Insights Lead.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Aggregate, process, and archive present and historical spatial and non-spatial agronomic and environmental data
  • Perform statistical analyses of precision ag data, including remote sensing of crop canopy, yield maps, agriculturally relevant weather indicators, soil characteristics and water quality
  • Utilize ArcMap, QGIS, MS Excel, Python, and R applications to perform or automate wrangling, summarization, and analysis of data
  • Create reports, visual and written summaries and communicate findings of data analyses to diverse audiences
  • Ensure adherence to data quality standards
  • Assist in developing and editing proposals, technical papers, articles, and presentations
  • Develop insights from ISA data that can be used for technical assistance by Research and Conservation Agronomists

TRAVEL

  • This position requires occasional travel within Iowa to study locations for data collection, and travel within the US for other collaborative meetings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position has occasional supervisory and training responsibility for interns or new staff members related to internal and external data location and access, ESRI licenses, GPS units.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related field
  • Experience in R or Python programming languages

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 1-3 years of data science experience
  • Strong understanding of and experience in:
    • Working with geo-spatial data
    • Use of RShiny technology to develop user friendly tools
