Are you an experienced Estimating Manager or Chief Estimator with 15+ years in the construction industry? Do you have a passion for construction estimating and leadership?

Methuen Construction is seeking a Director of Preconstruction to lead our Estimating department and oversee the estimating process for ongoing and upcoming projects.

Your Role

  • Create budgets and estimates produced by the estimating team
  • Oversee the estimating process for all projects bid and negotiated through alternative delivery; establish standardized procedures, methods, and processes for estimating and training estimating resources in the use of the same
  • Oversee analysis of past performance on projects and establish estimating standards for all future estimates based on such analysis; assist in oversight of the historical cost database, bid management, and estimating software
  • Give final word on procedures, processes, techniques, and personnel decisions for assigned projects
  • Work with President to oversee department standards for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget tracking tools
  • Ensure that all required pre-qualifications and licenses are kept current; review and prepare for the execution of all contracts for new work
  • Assign responsibilities for preconstruction and estimating team on each project
  • Work in conjunction with Business Development and Marketing to implement the corporate business development strategy for the company
  • Review project plans, specifications, and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude
  • Screen appropriate publications and other lead sources for prospective jobs to bid; collaborate with market sector Operations Vice Presidents to determine the best fits for the corporate goals
  • Prepare and supervise preparation of RFPs, bids, and proposals for final submission
  • Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and other groups that reflect and support company core values
  • Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image
  • Coordinate and participate in the transfer of information on successful projects to the management team
  • Review, maintain and develop processes for continuous department improvement
  • Develop and maintain historical cost data information
  • Review and prepare for execution all contracts for new work
  • Perform other related duties as needed

Your Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years of experience in the construction industry
  • 10+ years of experience performing takeoff, pricing, and functions of an Estimator

Travel

  • Travel is occasionally required for pre-bid, client meetings, or site visits to jobsites located primarily in the Northeast. Travel outside the Northeast may be required but on an infrequent basis.
