OBJECTIVE: The RCFI Technical Insight Manager is responsible for managing the implementation of RCFI educational outreach programing.  Educational outreach programs shall include use of learning methods and technology translating research results on soybean production, agronomy, agricultural conservation, climate-smart practices, water quality, water management, soil health and habitat improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaboratively work with RCFI team to develop strategy and an annual plan of work for RCFI educational outreach programming
  • Work in concert with RCFI colleagues to conceptualize and translate research and technical content leveraging written and verbal presentations in collaboration with ISA Information & Education team, such as: guides, tools, one-pagers, and other communication outreach formats
  • Coordinate editing, production, and design with ISA Information & Education team and RCFI staff to ensure consistent quality and ISA branding
  • Develop technical training materials to support RCFI staff, as well as external audiences
  • Conduct training and educational outreach programming to various audiences including farmers, collaborators, general public and stakeholders supporting RCFI programs
  • Assist RCFI Program Leads in preparing work plans, budgets, quarterly and annual reports, and help support new project contracts and grant development
  • Coordinate with other ISA departments and staff embracing the culture of ISA and emulate that to the team

TRAVEL

  • This position requires up to 50% travel seasonally, primarily in Iowa. Frequently, travel is outside the local area and may be overnight.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position has no supervisory responsibility.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in ag studies, education, agribusiness, agronomy, environmental sciences, biological sciences, ecology, sociology, or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience working in education/outreach, agronomy, ag retail sales and/or conservation
  • Experience translating technical content and research for non-expert audiences
  • Practical experience and broad knowledge demonstrating understanding of:
    • Education and outreach methods
    • Agricultural industry and the ag retail system
    • Soybean cropping systems
    • Conservation program delivery systems
    • Promotion of conservation practices
  • Capable of working in a team environment while working independently to achieve specific project deliverables

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in ag studies, education, agribusiness, agronomy, environmental sciences, biological sciences, ecology, sociology, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience working in education/outreach, agronomy, ag retail sales and/or conservation
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally to develop education outreach programming on multi-media platforms, including social media
  • Experience differentiating communications strategies to effectively reach different audiences and achieve learning objectives
