Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Rig Welders.

Position Summary:

Rig Welders will weld, fabricate, and assist in installation of varying types of pipe into the projects piping systems. This position will also require assisting fitters, riggers/rigging, and knowledge of process piping.  Rig Welders and Mechanical Welders will also weld piping attachments, structural supports/steel, or any metal that requires joining by welding processes. Rig welders with their own trucks/welding rigs are preferred for many projects in remote locations or sites. Rig welders may be required to use RCI provided welding equipment in some instances, due to site conditions or Client requirements.

Qualification Highlights:

  • Rig welders are required to weld in the SMAW and GTAW processes at multiple project sites in various conditions and consistently produce acceptable code and Client specification welds
  • Rig welders will be required to perform a 12" diameter, 0.250" wall thickness, butt and size-on-size branch test for qualification in the SMAW process
  • For DOT governed projects, Rig Welders will be required to re-qualify every six (6) months
  • Rig Welder's SMAW welds will be examined in accordance with API 1104 and monitored to ensure all parameters of the weld procedure are followed
  • Rig Welders will be required to remove their own test specimens in accordance with API 1104
  • GTAW qualification will be performed on a 2.5" XXS pipe coupon fixed in the 6G position and graded in accordance with ASME Section IX
  • Testing of the Rig Welder will be held at an RCI or Project specified weld test lab where the Client may witness testing at their discretion
  • Rig Welders are required to tack and weld in accordance with approved procedures, fabricate or assist pipe fitters in the fabrication of various types of industrial pipe metallurgies and configuration for field assembly of piping systems
  • Rig Welders require knowledge of basic rigging and proper wind blockage when winds exceed 5mph
  • Rig Welders must properly store and handle electrodes issued for each day's work
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements
  • Must have all necessary tools upon start date
  • Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
  • Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site

Position Responsibilities:

  • Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding of pipe applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metals to be assembled, metals machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques
  • Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components together in various body positions and in various places
  • Bolts, clamps, and tack welds parts to secure in position for welding
  • Sets up equipment, wire feeders, and welding parameters for quality welds
  • Weld metal materials to piping systems, supports, or associated equipment using the appropriate welding procedure for the various equipment and metal types involved
  • Identify all equipment for job and process
  • Identify all safety risks and requirements

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Current RCI employee
  • RCI former employee from a Reduction of Force (ROF)
  • Current RCI Welding Certification
  • Former experience of working with RCI
  • Former experience working in the petrochemical industry

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, waling, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting
  • Will talk and hear to communicate effectively
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push and pull various objects, materials, controls or tools
  • Will be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs in weight
  • Will work in safely managed excavations when required or in elevations with fall protection, when required
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and safety toe work boots, as appropriate for specific work conditions (welding or non-welding)
  • Must be capable of working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, while wearing appropriate PPE. Must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
