Water Plant Operator "C"

Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $20.61- $24.73/hr. DOQ
To produce a safe and attractive potable water to our water customers by way of water sampling so as to ensure the City meets EPA requirements and that all operational equipment is maintained properly. Participates in making minor and major repairs to mechanical equipment, reports major breakdowns. Conducts plant inspections.
Essential Duties:
- Participates in making minor and major repairs to mechanical equipment, reports major breakdowns.
- Conducts plant inspections.
- Records readings on the chlorine residual and records pounds of chlorine.
- Makes necessary adjustments on chlorination equipment and other operating equipment.
- Collects water samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis when scheduled.
- Maintains a log on lubrication and maintenance done on all equipment.
- Follows up on customer complaints in relation to any taste and odor problems.
- Attends seminars that will keep updated on any new changes in the DER rule on water plant operations.
- Inspects, by testing, the low chlorine residual alarm, the chlorine leak alarm, and the loss of chlorine alarm.
- Mowing grass, painting, plant house cleaning.
- Performs related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED required.
- Class "C" Water Operator's Certificate (Water Department) issued by the State of Florida required.
- Minimum of two (2) years continuous experience in water or wastewater operations.
- A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Valid Florida Driver's License required.
- Must complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period
