Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Industrial Instrument Fitters for industrial construction projects.

Position Summary

Instrument Fitters will construct, dismantle, and repair instrument tubing, fittings, and supports for the following but not limited to valves, transmitters, gauges, air headers, etc., across a construction site.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Read technical diagrams, loop sheets, Process & instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), instrument data sheets and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations in space (coordinates), quantities, and sizes of materials required
  • Identify all tools required for tasks
  • Identify safety risks and precautions required to eliminate those risks
  • Perform general electrical construction and maintenance duties
  • Repairing and replacing instruments and tubing
  • Cleanup work areas
  • Must be willing to assist other crafts and perform additional job duties while not performing primary craft duties (be a Team player)

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to install and remove various instrumentation, such as indicators, recorders, telemetry, controllers, transmitters, transducers, and analyzers used to measure and control variables such as pressure, temperature, flow, level, of density
  • Reads and works from related plans, loop sheets, instrument ID sheets, P&IDs and other schematic drawings
  • Cuts, Bends, and installs pipe tubing or conduit for the installation of air or process lines for instrument controls using hacksaws and pipe cutters for the proper installation of the instrumentation device
  • Installs instruments, instrument stands, and control wiring to valves and strokes valves to verify operation
  • Installation and calibration of recorders, alarms, switches, and other devices
  • 3 to 5 years of experience at industrial construction sites preferred
  • Steam tracing of lines
  • Repair of steam traps
  • Install flanges and orifice plates
  • Perform other duties necessary in order to remove, install or troubleshoot instrumentation devices
  • Must be able to work full work schedule and any additional overtime with little or no notification
  • Must be willing to assist other crafts and perform additional duties while not performing primary craft duties
  • Must be willing to work safely and follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Must follow all company and site rules and regulations

  • NCCER Certification related to Electrician or Instrumentation
  • No minimum education requirements but completion of formal/technical education preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
  • Will talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
  • Able to use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, and push or pull objects such as materials, controls, and tools
  • Will be required to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
  • Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms and man lifts
  • Capable of occasional work out on an open structure using the appropriate fall protection requirements
  • Capable of work at heights up to 300 feet utilizing proper fall protection devices
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short distances, see colors, possess depth perception and peripheral vision
  • Must be capable or working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs, safety vests, gloves, steel toe/safety toe boots, and masks/respirators
