Job Brief:

The Inventory Controller will lead the inventory department and monitor/report on company inventory levels, with a strong focus on inventory reduction.  This role is responsible for developing inventory tracking systems and performing inventory analysis to ensure inventory levels are relevant and within budget.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational processes, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Advises on required or advantageous initiatives to upper management.
  • Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Controls inventory levels by organizing/conducting physical counts, monthly spot checks of warehouses and bin locations; reconciling with data storage system Syteline.
  • Provides monthly/weekly reporting of inventory levels, outstanding purchase orders and outstanding receipts. 
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains employees in the inventory department.
  • Oversees the daily workflows of the departments relating to inventory control.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Maintains physical condition of warehouse and plans and implements new design layouts.
  • Initiates and maintains part/item numbers by ensuring part numbers are not duplicated, units of measure are correct and obsolete part numbers are managed appropriately.
  • Reviews and maintains item/product code markups and markup structure.
  • Monitors item costing and pricing.
  • Review and support IFS system issues with Astra as needed.
  • Works with department employees to identify, create, and document best practices and processes and ensures all employees are included in communication updates.
  • Continually review and improve the training program (Click Learn) to increase efficiencies within department. 
  • Communicate and work with Field Technicians to resolve failed transactions relating to the IFS Mobile Work Order (MWO) application.
  • Cultivates and manages key business relationships within industry.
  • Manages records and documentation related to purchasing agreements with suppliers and negotiates agreements as required.
  • Meets warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
  • Coordinates inventory warehouse activities with other departments and department employees may perform the same duties as other warehouse employees.
  • Leads Warehouse teams’ safety culture; ensures staff compliance with safety legislation including certification standards, participation in health and safety meetings.
  • Assists the Service Administrators with margin review on purchase orders.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an industrial setting, 3 years within a warehousing management/supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully implementing sustainable inventory reduction measures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to delegate, motivate, and inspire team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze large amounts of data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Experience in supply chain management and logistics.
  • Experience managing multiple warehouse locations and teams. 
  • Experience working with ERP (enterprise resource planning) software. 
  • Ability to establish positive, professional relationships.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, determine and implement solutions, and provide results that benefit the organization.
  • Ethical, trustworthy professional with outstanding record-keeping experience managing confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain a regular presence at off-site locations.
  • Regular travel will be required.

Education:

  • Post-secondary education or comparable experience in business, supply chain management, warehousing, or parts management.
  • Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and general construction practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials is considered an asset.
