As the leasing professional II — public housing (recerts), you play an important role in helping us fulfill this mission by determining eligibility for recertification of housing assistance benefits, guiding Public Housing clients through the recertification process, mediating disputes and providing support to property management operations.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review income and family composition documentation and conduct interviews to verify eligibility for recertification for Public Housing assistance.
  • Follow up with clients if additional verification information is required.
  • Compute the client’s portion of rent.
  • Inform the client about DHA procedures, programs, and services, and provide answers to any questions they may have.
  • Process annual recertification and interim income and family composition changes.
  • Attend monthly resident meetings and resolve tenant complaints in accordance with DHA policies.
  • Enforce the requirements of the lease and mediate disputes.
  • Provide support to property management operations by conducting tours of leasing units, managing move-in and move-out procedures, and leading orientation discussions.
  • Coordinate with security and maintenance operations to file incident reports and log and assign work orders.
  • Maintain client database files, ensuring confidentiality of information.

  • Knowledge of DHA organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of HUD housing program regulations and eligibility requirements.
  • Expertise in reviewing, assessing and updating reports and documentation.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in evaluating social program issues and conflict resolution.
  • Understanding of the principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Proficiency in utilizing a variety of business software programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain Rent Calculation Certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Valid Texas State Drivers’ License required
