DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas’ mission is to provide affordable, quality housing and access to supportive resources across the region. As a maintenance technician at DHA, you play a key role in maintaining the rental properties of the agency across the communities it serves. 

You will practice your versatility as you perform maintenance and repair work on DHA facilities and equipment. Along the way, you will practice problem-solving while mastering your maintenance skills through DHA-funded training resources such as the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) maintenance credential programs.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform a wide range of independently managed maintenance and repair work on facilities, systems, and structures (i.e., replacement of hardware, light fixtures, baseboards, molding, appliances, etc.)
  • Assemble, install or repair plumbing fixtures and maintain bathroom fixtures (i.e., showers, toilets, faucets, water supply and drain lines, etc.)
  • Replace HVAC air filters, maintain air vents and thermostats
  • Replace electrical switches, circuit breakers, outlets, light fixtures, and electrical appliances under supervision of DHA’s Master Electrician 
  • Prepare vacant housing units for occupancy; including repair, cleaning, and interior painting and general maintenance, etc.
  • Repair or replace doors, door hardware, locks, cabinets, windows, flooring, roofing, pipe systems and more
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and find solutions

 

Knowledge and Skills for Success

A successful maintenance technician has…

  • A strong knowledge of materials, procedures and methods used to perform general building and maintenance according to industry standards while following safety procedures
  • The ability to organize and plan a sequence of tasks necessary to complete job assignments effectively 
  • Experience in the use of various hand tools, work aids and equipment to complete the required work

 

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical vocational program 
  • Must have a Texas Driver’s License
  • Two (2) years of building maintenance, plumbing, cleaning and maintenance experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
